Tediousness is Back in Season

It's that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, kids have gone back to school, the tourists are thinning out, and squash is back in season.

More importantly, the most tedious squash and mascot of my own tediousness, is showing up in grocery stores and markets once again. Yes, I speak of the one and only butternut squash.

In the last 24 hours, I've received emails from a friend and my sister with the same notice from Williams-Sonoma: a recipe for butternut squash risotto!

My friend, Swizzies, says "Heh heh. Thought you might like this. Or are we 'over' the butternut squash jokes now?" My sister writes, "When I saw this, I just laughed. Thought I would share a butternut moment with you."

Here's how I replied: "To quote Winston Churchill: 'We shall nevah, nevah, nevah be over butternut squash jokes. NEVAH! We shall tell them on the beach and in the streets. We shall tell them in emails and at cocktail parties. We shall nevah stop resisting the desire to nevah forget the tediousness of butternut squash!"

Here's the link to Williams-Sonoma's butternut squash risotto.

And now I'm going to go back to my tediousness previously in progress...

If Stonewall Jackson's physician had used a butternut poultice he may have survived the wound, the war and kept his arm too! I've learned so much about the personality traits in vegetables this year.

If you don't have it already, I recommend asking Angela for her spicy shrimp and butternut squash soup recipe. THAT is anything but tedious.
