AKA: Visiting the South can be SO interesting.
Just spent four days in Savannah, Georgia. Decided to make a road trip out of it rather than flying.
And with road trips come those eye sores of all eye sores: billboards. And then there are your cars with bumper stickers.
In the South, there are a plethora of billboards, church signs, and bumper stickers with messages about God and Jesus on them. Here are the better ones I saw along the highways and byways of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Is God your steering wheel or your spare tire?
Church is God's correctional facility.
I was going to waste but then Jesus recycled me.
This truck is owned by Jesus, I'm just the driver.
And then there were all the billboards with quotes from the Bible and pictures of Jesus on them. These were often followed immediately down the road by billboards advertising "GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS!"
Needless to say, I find the South a bit of an anomaly, bless their little hearts.

The South is definitely a different little slice of the nation. I wish I could fully remember the text of the billboard I saw touting Southern heritage and pride. It said something like, "There is no dishonor in not being victorious. There is honor in remembering our Southern heritage" or something like that. I wish I'd stopped and taken a picture.
Southern pride, even above nationalism, is alive and well in Dixie. As many a Southern likes to say (and even more believe,) "The South will rise again."
My favorite weird evangelizing bumper sticker read, "Snatch God's word, not my purse." Not that I can make sense of that.
