A Twist of Brunch...

When I lived in California, I had a friend who loved to cook as much as I did. For two years, we banded together and threw a brunch for 20 of our closest friends. The menu was innovative and tasty and the twist was a poetry reading.

This year, I've decided to replicate our brunch here in D.C.--only I'll be doing it without my sidekick, Kimberly.

Here's this year's menu:
Scones and Clotted Cream
A Selection of Fine Cheeses
Seasonal Fruit
Goat Cheese Fritters with Apricot Port Sauce

Viennese Emperor's Whim
Potato Doilies with a Choice of
Smoked Salmon or Marinated Pork Tenderloin

Endive Spears with Blue Cheese and Pomegranate

Lemon Tart

A Selection of California and Virginia Wines
Sparkling Water
Fresh Pressed Citrus

Here's hoping this year's inaugural event in D.C. is as successful and well-received as it was in the Golden State. If it's not, well, I guess it's one more reason to think about moving back to sunny California. (I can think of lots of other reasons, but I'll let them go for today.)

On a different note, I am feeling a particular gleefulness about how up-in-arms the Republicans are over the president's recent nominee to the Supreme Court. I'm concerned that the Democrats aren't speaking up more, but it's nice to see the Republicans with their panties all in a wad for a change.

And how about Tom Delay? Let's get that genuflecting SOB out of the House before he does any more damage.

Just my two cents for the day.
