The Spanish Riding School of Vienna
Started the week's vacation on Saturday evening with tickets to the 2005 performance of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna's famed lippizaner stallions. If you haven't ever seen these horses in action, you've really missed something. It's like equestrian ballet. It truly is amazing. And, I'll admit, the strains of Strauss leave me verklempt. Having lived in Austria, including nine months in the Imperial City of Vienna, the waltzes of Strauss remind me of the wonderful and gemütlich personalities of the Viennese. I confess, I cried more when they played the Austrian national anthem than I did when they played the "Star-Spangled Banner."
