Day 22: (Part 2) How Sad is This

I'm sure it's like this in other parts of the country, too, but how sad is it that there is boot camp for dealing with customers on Black Friday (the busiest retail day in the U.S. on the day after Thanksgiving)?

Check out this article from the Washington Post.

All I can say is:

PEOPLE! Get a life. And get your priorities straight.

Totally off the subject...Did Lane Twichell(sp?) serve in my mission? That name sounds so familiar? What's the connection with you and them? I keep thinking I know him. Sorry to post this here, but I know you check your blog, not sure about the e-mail.

Kim: Yes, Lane did. Lane's wife and I are part of a group of friends called the Scary Feminists from Hell (long story.) I've reconnected with Lane through Adriana. He's an amazing artist. To see his work, go to www.lanetwitchell.com

How sad is this? Pretty sad.

Have you ever worked in retail?

I think everyone in this country should have to work retail for one entire Christmas season. Such an experience would hold up an ugly mirror and show people how they(many of the,) behave in public.

Absolutely shameful.

Gunfighter: I have worked in retail, which is why I find this behavior so appalling. Retail paid for college (B.A., George Mason U., '95.) It was tough work, but it paid off. The biggest thing, though, is I'm very aware of what it's like to be on the service side of the counter and dealing with customers. I'm here to tell you, the customer is NOT always right.

I agree with you: everyone should have to work in retail at least once in their lives. If they did, they'd be a bit more considerate to those who are trying to help them.

Here's to the retail service folks who will be helping all of us out there this holiday season and every day of the year. Please be patient and remember: a few kind words go a long way with those who are helping you.

Argh, shopping in xmas season in the US makes me violent. But I am always, ALWAYS nice to the retail personnel. They don't make enough money to put up with the hopped-up xmas consumer - BUY BUY BUY!!

Ick.
