What is it with me and meme's lately?! Here's another one I found while randomly clicking on blogs in the blog list on DC Blogs. This one is "Five Things One Should Eat Before One Dies" or something along those lines. I found it on Lost in Somewhereistan.
Here's my list...
1. Fresh, hot, slather-them-on-my-thighs, please, Krispy Kreme Original Donuts. Ambrosia!
2. A plate of fine cheeses--Humboldt Fog, Wisconsin Smoked Gouda, Manchego--and a hearty loaf of crusty sourdough.
3. Crepes from Ti Couz in the Mission District in San Francisco. Most especially, the Tod and the La Delice. Divine! (The restaurant doesn't have a website, but here's a good review of it by a foodie. One day, I'm going to write my own review.)
4. Fresh strawberries from the farm stand on Lucas Valley Road in Marin County, California, or the Point Reyes Station Market in Point Reyes Station, California. So naturally sweet and delicate, it would be an insult to dust them with any kind of sweetener.
5. My mom's homemade crescent rolls. There's so much butter in these puppies, it's amazing the Surgeon General hasn't declared them a hazard to one's health. But they are sooooooo good. Mmmmm-mm.
If you were about to die, what would you eat?

I'm with you on the Krispy Kreme. If I were about to die, that would be near the top of my list, if not THE top.
Havarti cheese. That as well. And mashed potato.
Ok. Now I'm hungry... And hoping that Krispy Kreme comes to Brisbane sometime soon.
Not putting if off -- I will eat chocolate mousse and fruite tortes until death do we part.
There are things so awful I'd rather die than eat them. That would be just about anything that comes out of the ocean, anything deep-fried, and string beans. Oh, and anything pink or orange that comes out of a vending machine.
Sorry about the oppositional meme thing.
Point Reyes is amazing, isn't it? Is that where elephant seals hang out? I know a guy who owns a Christmas tree ranch near there.

hmnmm now I am way too hungry to go to bed.
See's Bordeaux chocolates... milk or dark is good ... I could eat a 1 lb box in a sitting.
Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Bun ice cream. Hum... or Karmel Sutra....
Outback's Thunder From Down Under dessert or Sinful Sundae w those toasted coconut flakes....
(yes, I have a sweet tooth)
Cheesecake Factory's Chicken Marsala dinner.... w/ dolch'e de'leche (sp????) cheesecake.
Did you say only 5?? I know I put more than 5... I'm a Libra and can't decide!!! DOH!
Oooooh, Hot Doughnuts Now! We used to have a Krispy Kreme right up the road, but it closed *SOB* and now the closest one is 30 miles away.
The key to Krispy Kreme euphoria is definitely fresh and hot. Ohhhh.... like buttah.
My last food before death would have to be a big, perfect, juicy peach. And a slice of my mom's apple pie, as cliche as that sounds.
E:) : I wouldn't wish a new McDonald's on any nation, but a Krispy Kreme... Well, that's a different thing altogether! The answer to world peace is Krispy Kreme. I shall implore the donut gods to bestow upon Brisbane, that shining star of eastern Australia, its very own Krispy Kreme. Hot and Fresh! Hot and Fresh! Hot and Fresh...
Phoebe: Chocolate mousse, yum! Fruit tarts, yum yum! As for the oppositional meme, that could be fun. Things I wouldn't want to eat before I die: liver, Brussel sprouts, tripe, raw eggs, tofu shakes, and escargot.
Cele: Got the late night munchies, eh? Sorry about that! Hope you found a remedy for that dilemma.
Terri: Ben & Jerry's, yum! I think I'm going to have to try their Cinnamon Bun ice cream. I love their oatmeal cookie ice cream, so I'm sure I'd like CB. And why limit ourselves to just five things? I say, open the buffet!
Liseysmom: If it's any comfort, the nearest one to my house is more than 10 miles away. It's practically to Mt. Vernon! And I use to live 3 miles from one when I was in California. Go figure! OTOH, it's probably a good thing it's inconvenient, otherwise, I'd be over there every day.
Liz: A big, fat, juicy peach, yum x 10! I'm with you there! My favorite part of one of my favorite books, James and the Giant Peach, is the description of the peach itself. Oh heaven! And hey, if I can wish for my mom's rolls, you can certainly wish for pie.
*Fresh* challah bread. Rachel's Coconut Yogurt on top of blueberries. Algerian/Turkish coffee -- the thick, black, sweet stuff with cardamom in it that you have to sift through your teeth. Steamed sweetcorn on the cob with a bit of butter, salt and pepper. Roasted New Mexico green chiles. *When I ate meat...freshly steamed chicken tamales.
Aitch: Excellent choices. Especially the corn on the cob and chicken tamales. Yum! Although, all the others sound divine, too! (Well, except for maybe the coffee. I'm just gonna have to trust you on that one. I'm still trying to get past the smell of coffee...)
Erdbeerrahm Schokolade. The BIG bar.
Steak (med rare) and a baked potato with sour cream, butter, chives.
You made me laugh with the Krispy Kremes comment about slathering them on your thighs. I shall remember that next time I'm eating the free one while watching the conveyor belt push thousands of them past my nose.
SML: Steak and baked potatoes were on the menu in these parts a couple of Sundays ago. And was that yum or what?
As for Erdbeerrahm Schokolade, rumor has it, there's a box in this house with exactly that in it for you. I'm trying to figure out how to get it to you without it melting between hot-as-hades DC and cool-as-a-cucumber Montana....
Cool as a cucumber Montana? What? It was 102 here two days ago. I mean, holy shit. I need to move to Hawaii.
I'd say hold that chocolate bar for a month and then we'll talk. Or eat it in my honor. It's so yummy!!
